Uch Leang commented during an interview with a Nhan Dan correspondent on the occasion of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s official visit to Cambodia and attendance at the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43).

He said the Cambodia-Vietnam relationship is not only the traditional relationship between two neighbouring countries but also one of brothers and close comrades, who have worked side by side during the struggle for national liberation in the past and today’s cause of national construction.

The visit is an important diplomatic event between the Cambodian and Vietnamese National Assemblies in 2022 when Cambodia is the Chair of ASEAN, following the success of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings, said Uch Leang, adding that it is also among the series of high-level delegation exchanges in the Cambodia-Vietnam, Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2022 that marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The scholar said this is the first visit to Cambodia by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue as leader of the Vietnamese parliament, aiming to deepen good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation between the two countries more substantively and effectively.

The visit is an occasion for the two sides to discuss the direction of cooperation between the two legislative bodies in the coming time, as well as regional and international issues of shared interest, said Uch Leang.

He cited the administrative building of the Cambodian National Assembly worth 25 million USD donated by Vietnam as a symbol of the friendship and the fine parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Uch Leang added that the mutual visits by the two countries’ national and provincial leaders in the friendship year 2022 have contributed to strengthening the bilateral relationship more comprehensively and extensively.
