After 10 years, the city has 10 wards and 5 communes with a total natural area of 18,438 hectares. The income per capita  reaches VND72.3 million per person per year, equal to 1.42 times compared to national average. The average economic growth rate in the last 3 years is 12.51%. The urbanisation rate of the city is estimated t over 72%. Tuyen Quang is one of the cities having a high rate of urbanisation in the Northern mountainous region.

The provincial-level government has planned to develop modern urban areas and tourist regions including Viet My urban area, VinCom urban area, Dong Son new urban area, My Lam Mineral Spring tourist area, and Dum Mountain tourist area. In addition, the province will build connected tourist and urban areas such as Son Duong and Na Hang eco-tourism areas, and urban areas of SunGroup. This is an important factor for the city to increase the population growth rate in the near future.

Right from the beginning of 2021, the province kicked off the construction of an expressway project connecting two northern provinces of Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho and Noi Bai–Lao Cai expressway. This is an essential factor for the locality to complete its transport Infrastructure system of urban areas. When the expressway is completed and put into operation, it will open up great opportunities for the city to attract tourism and investment.
