Artisan Ha Van Thuan is teaching Then singing and Tinh gourd lutes to the younger |
Over the past few years, artisans in the province have made great efforts in collecting and preserving precious cultural heritages of ethnic minority groups in the area, contributing to promoting traditional cultural values and tourism.
Tuyen Quang currently has seven artisans who have been conferred the title of Meritorious Artisan by the State President. All of them have made great contribution to the preservation of intangible cultural genres. Artisan Ma Van Duc from Tan Ha ward, Tuyen Quang city, is preserving and popularising Then singing, Tinh gourd lutes, Coi singing, Phong slư singing, and Quan lang singing of the Tay ethnic group. Artisan Sam Van Dun from Dai Phu commune (Son Duong) is preserving the worship ritual sanh drum dance of the Cao Lan ethnic group, while Artisan Ban Kim Son from Son Phu commune (Na Hang) is preserving and promoting 'Cap sac' ritual, a rite of passage to mark the coming-of-age of Dao ethnic men, a ritual praying for rain and bountiful harvests, and Pao dung singing of the Red Dao ethnic group.Experiencing the changes of social history, precious cultural traditions of ethnic minority groups are still circulated thanks to artisans, especially in the field of intangible cultural heritages. They are the “soul” and “treasure” of folk knowledge with a creative capacity to teach folk culture through generations, contributing to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values and national identity.
Meritorious Artisan Sam Van Dun has collected and saved 200 ancient books and eight books on Sanh singing, of which one book dates back as far as 300-400 years. He is the one who can proficiently use music instruments of Cao Lan ethnic group such as: Sanh drum, Pi le trumpet, among others.
Many artisans have actively gathered, established or directly taught members of cultural clubs at the grassroots level, thus contributing positively to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values in the community, as well as effectively implementing the movement “All people unite to build cultural life" in residential areas. Currently, the province has more than 140 ethnic cultural preservation clubs with over 2,000 members.
In particular, many clubs are operating effectively such as the Then singing club, the Tinh gourd lutes club in Chiem Hoa, the Cultural Family Club in Dai Phu commune (Son Duong), and Dao Quan Trang cultural club in Chan Son commune (Yen Son). According to Meritorious Artisan Ban Kim Son from Na Con village, Son Phu commune (Na Hang), he often teaches Pao dung singing and the'Cap Sac' ritual dance of the Dao ethnic group for the art performance team in the hamlet. As a result, the cultural movement of the hamlet is developing. Many items have won high prizes at festivals and performances at the district and provincial levels. He said he is trying his best to teach the younger generation with the desire to contribute to preserving the cultural identity of the nation.
In addition to the contribution and enthusiastic participation of artisans and the local authorities, the Culture, Sports and Tourism sector has also paid attention to organising arts festivals and performances to create conditions for artisans and especially the generations of young ethnic minority people in the area to exchange and learn experiences and promote and introduce their unique cultural value.
