Proactively preventing forest fires in the dry season

TQO - To prevent and proactively respond to the risk of fires, minimize the number of cases and damage, and protect existing forest areas, the Forestry Department has been coordinating with local authorities to strengthen propaganda and proactively prevent forest fires.

Provincial leaders inspect forests in Tan An commune (Chiem Hoa).

According to statistics, the total area of forests and forest land in the province is currently over 440 thousand hectares of forestry land, of which more than 46 thousand hectares are special-use forests, nearly 121 thousand hectares are protective forests, more than 272 thousand hectares are production forests and more than 13 thousand hectares are bamboo forests. Low air humidity, below 55% in recent days, is one of the factors that increases the risk of forest fires.

According to a report from the Provincial Forestry Department, there are currently 53 communes in the province at risk of forest fires at level IV (dangerous level). Of which, the most are Chiem Hoa district with 13 communes, Yen Son district with 11 communes, Son Duong district with 9 communes, Ham Yen district with 7 communes, Lam Binh district with 6 communes, Na Hang district with 4 communes, Tuyen Quang city with 3 communes.

To minimize the possible forest fires in the province, the Department has strengthened inspection and urged forest owners to strictly implement regulations on forest fire prevention and fighting in the management area.

For the forest area that was broken or collapsed due to the damage caused by storm No. 3, the People's Committees at the commune level and forest owners have developed plans to manage, protect, use forests and prevent and fight forest fires such as: taking responsibility before the law if not fully implementing the responsibilities of the forest owner or being assigned to manage, causing forest fires and forest loss; arranging regular forces at checkpoints and stations to strictly control people entering and exiting forest areas with high risk of fire.

In addition, assign forces to be on duty 24/24 hours when the forest fire risk warning level is level III or higher; strengthen patrolling and guarding to detect forest fires early and ensure forces on duty, ready to mobilize local forces to handle them immediately when forest fires occur, not allowing large fires to occur and last for many days.

Arrange means, materials, and funds to effectively implement the "4 on-site" motto and regularly monitor forest fire forecast information on the early fire warning system and the software system for early detection of suspected forest fires to promptly inform forest owners in the management area to have plans to protect forests and prevent and fight forest fires in accordance with the actual situation.

With the measures taken by the forest rangers along with proactive forest fire prevention plans of localities, it is basically possible to control the forest area of the province.
