Kim Binh Commune develops economy from banana growing

TQO - Banana has been one of the key crops in the economic development of the local people in Kim Binh Commune over the past 5 years. Bananas are currently harvested and sold at prices between VND5,000 and VND6,000 VND per kilogramme.

Since 2011, Kim Binh residents have grown bananas both on hills and in fields. Thanks to the favourable weather and soil conditions, the bananas are large and delicious and have won much favour from marketers.

The commune has worked out many solutions to support banana growers such as inviting experts to provide training on techniques on cultivating and preventing pests and diseases for banana trees as well as cooperating with Bac Giang Provincial Agriculture and Forestry University in conducting research on tissue culture techniques in banana varieties to improve seed sources for local bananas.

In addition to exporting bananas to the Chinese market, people in Kim Binh Commune have used bananas for making wine and producing dried banana.

Kim Binh banana wine has been granted an exclusive patent license by the Intellectual Property Office (Ministry of Science and Technology). Currently, Kim Binh banana wine is receiving support from the Chiem Hoa District authorities to be assessed and classified as a district-level OCOP product.
