Programme held to call for support for the poor

TQO - A live television programme entitled ‘The whole country joins hands for the poor’ was held in Hanoi on October 17, calling for support for the poor.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairwoman of National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended the programme.

The event also saw the presence of Politburo membersincluding permanent member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)'s Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong;Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Commissionfor Communications and Education Vo Van Thuong;Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai; Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Economic CommissionNguyen Van Binh; and the Secretary of the PCC and President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Tran Thanh Man, among others.

At the programme, President of the VFFCC Tran Thanh Man conveyed Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong’s deepest sympathies and regards to officials, soldiers and people in the flood-hit areas of the central region.

The top leader also asked the Party committees, authorities and Vietnam Fatherland Front and agencies in the localities to urgent prevent and fight floods and storms; overcome the consequences; and promptly help people to stabilise their lives and production.

On the occasion, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong called for people around the country and overseas Vietnamese in foreign countries to uphold the spirit of solidarity to support people who are living in difficult circumstances and the poor.

Speaking at the programme, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasised that the Party and State always considers hunger eradication and poverty reduction as agreat policy and a key urgent task in sustainable development.

The profound humanistic significance of the policy, towards the poor, has turned into specific activities implemented in the agencies at all levels, he added.

The Government leader also noted that the Government and PM mobilised all enterprises, organisations and individuals both in the country and abroad to continue to join hands with the Party, State and the VFF, further contributing to the poverty reduction and ensuring the social welfare.

At the event, PM as well as other leaders directed gave donations for people affected by flooding and storm in the central provinces.

220 units, organisations and individuals also offered their support on the occasion and committed to donate a total of nearly VND2.4 trillion to the “Fund for the Poor” and social welfare programme.
