Thom Luong villagers preserve brocade embroidery

TQO - Thom Luong village has 157 households with nearly 800 people, most of them are Red Dao ethnic group. Local people live mainly on agricultural and forestry production. Although there are still many difficulties, the cultural and spiritual life is very rich and has many unique colors.

Embroidery in Thom Luong village, Thuong Nong commune (Na Hang) has been passed down through generations.

Thom Luong village brocade embroidery club was established in 2022, initially there were 22 members, now the club has 32 members.

Ban Thi Chieu, Chairman of the club, excitedly said that since its establishment, the women in the village have had stable jobs, with an income of VND4 million - VND6 million per person per month. Many women have escaped poverty thanks to brocade embroidery.

Motifs and patterns on the costumes, belts, head scarves, and overalls of the Dao people are all associated with daily life and labor, expressing the beliefs, customs, and practices of the Dao people such as birds, trees, flowers, and animals, etc.

Embroidery products are mainly women's clothing with extremely delicate lines.

The embroidered brocade products are extremely diverse, with quite reasonable prices such as the Red Dao woman's clothes ranging from VND9.5 million to VND11 million, a handbag costing about VND400,000.

Hoang Van Cuong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thuong Nong commune (Na Hang) said that, in the august, the commune supports to introduce brocade products of people in Thom Luong at Na Hang night market, expanding the market and creating income for women in the locality.
