Virtual meeting discusses organisation of AIPA 41

TQO - All the contents related to the organisation of the 41st General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 41) were discussed within a virtual meeting between the AIPA 41 National Secretariat and Secretariats of AIPA member countries’ parliaments in Hanoi on August 17.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for External Relations and Head of the AIPA 41 National Secretariat Vu Hai Ha stated that, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the spirit of cooperation and responsibility and the support and consensus of member countries, the National Assembly of Vietnam has decided to organise AIPA 41 in the form of a videoconference.

Vietnam wishes to receive cooperation and support from member countries to ensure the successful organisation of AIPA 41 and make significant contributions to the development of the community, he emphasised.

At the meeting, delegates heard an overview report from the AIPA 41 National Secretariat on the host country’s preparation work. Representatives of the Secretariats of AIPA member countries’ parliaments highly appreciated Vietnam’s preparations and agreed with many of the projected contents for the AIPA 41 agenda.

Participants also discussed the agenda, draft resolutions, and reports within the framework of AIPA 41, while exchanging views on how to organise the sessions of the AIPA General Assembly.

At the meeting, the AIPA 41 National Secretariat answered questions from the Secretariats of AIPA member countries’ parliaments, stressing that the inaugural organisation of the AIPA General Assembly via video conference requires the active and urgent coordination of all member parliaments.

Vietnam also collected recommendations from AIPA member countries regarding the agenda, contents and draft resolutions of AIPA 41 to ensure the connection with the results of the 36th ASEAN Summit as well as the dialogue between the leaders of ASEAN countries and the AIPA leaders.
