To Lam re-elected General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee

19 Politburo members for the 2026-2030 tenure were selected from the 180 official members of the new 14th-tenure Party Central Committee.

The newly elected 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has unanimously elected To Lam to continue serving as General Secretary for the new term.

On Friday morning, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, the 14th Central Committee (2026-2031 tenure) convened its first plenum to decide a number of particularly important matters, marking the formal start of the new term.

To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee and convener of the meeting, delivered the opening address and, on behalf of the Presidium, chaired the proceedings.

In strict compliance with the Party Charter, working regulations, electoral rules and related procedures, and upholding a strong spirit of unity, responsibility and the principle of democratic centralism, the first plenary meeting of the 14th Central Committee completed a series of key tasks.

These included the election of the Politburo, the Party General Secretary and the Secretariat.

The meeting also heard a report on proposed arrangements for key leadership positions within the Party and the State, discussed personnel for the position of Permanent Member of the Secretariat, and elected the Central Inspection Commission and its Chair.

List of members of the Politburo of the 14th Party Central Committee:

1. To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Central Military Commission.

2. Tran Thanh Man, Member of the Politburo of the 13th term, Secretary of the National Assembly’s Party Committee, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.

3. Tran Cam Tu, Member of the Politburo, Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the 13th term, Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Party Agencies.

4. Le Minh Hung, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission.

5. Do Van Chien, Member of the Politburo of the 13th term, Standing Deputy Secretary of the National Assembly’s Party Committee, Standing Vice-Chairman of the 15th National Assembly.

6. Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organisations, President of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front.

7. General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Politburo of the 13th term, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defence.

8. General Luong Tam Quang, Member of the Politburo of the 13th term, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security.

9. Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Member of the Politburo of the 13th term, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee.

10. General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Member of the Standing Board of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Political Department of the Viet Nam People’s Army.

11. Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication, Education and Mobilisation.

12. Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

13. Le Minh Tri, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Standing Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs.

14. Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee of the 13th term, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

15. Pham Gia Tuc, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Office.

16. Tran Sy Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission of the 13th term.

17. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Policies and Strategies.

18. Doan Minh Huan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Standing Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

19. Tran Duc Thang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Government’s Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Minister of Agriculture and Environment.

List of the Secretariat of the 14th Party Central Committee:

The 14th Party Central Committee approved a Secretariat comprising 13 members, including 10 Politburo members assigned to the Secretariat under the organisational structure. The remaining three members were elected at the first meeting of the Party Central Committee for the 14th term.

The following individuals were elected to serve on the Secretariat:

1. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President

2. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Board of the Government Party Committee, Deputy Prime Minister.

3. Nguyen Van Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court.

Based on nominations from the Party Central Committee, the 14th Politburo appointed Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, to continue serving as Permanent Member of the Secretariat for the 14th term.
