At the meeting, Vice Chairman Hoang Gia Long warmly welcomed Nghiem Viet Chung on her appointment as the new Consul General in Kunming. He expressed his confidence that the Consulate General would continue to serve as an important bridge, effectively supporting localities and promoting comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and China in general, and between Tuyen Quang Province and Chinese localities in particular.
He noted that after the administrative merger, the new Tuyen Quang Province covers an area of nearly 13,800 square kilometers with a population of over 1.9 million, managing more than 277 kilometers of border with Yunnan Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. With a diverse system of border gates, border markets, and increasingly synchronized transport infrastructure, Tuyen Quang has significant potential and advantages to expand cooperation in trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges with Chinese localities.
In recent years, based on the common understanding of the senior leaders of both countries, cooperation between Tuyen Quang Province and Yunnan Province as well as neighboring Chinese localities has been maintained regularly and steadily, yielding positive results. Cooperation in external relations, trade, investment, agriculture, transport, cross-border labor, education and training, and healthcare has continued to expand. Import–export turnover through border gates has grown strongly, while friendship exchanges, business connectivity, labor cooperation and citizen protection have been implemented effectively, contributing to political stability and social order in border areas.
At the working session, Long also pointed out several difficulties that need to be addressed, including unsynchronized border-gate infrastructure, limited import–export activities. He called for closer coordination and information exchange between the two sides to promote more effective cooperation in the coming period.
Speaking at the meeting, Consul General Nghiem Viet Chung highly appreciated the efforts and cooperation results achieved by Tuyen Quang Province with Chinese localities. She affirmed that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Kunming would continue to accompany and support the province in local external relations, cooperation, citizen protection and the resolution of difficulties, thereby contributing to more substantive and effective cooperation programs.
