Ceremony to announce the Resolution on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units

On June 30, at two locations in Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang, a solemn ceremony was held to announce the Resolutions and Decisions of the central and local authorities regarding the merger of provincial- and commune-level administrative units, the dissolution of district-level units, and the appointment of key personnel.

The ceremony was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Comrade Ha Thi Khiet, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization, former Secretary of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee, and non-professional Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Lieutenant General Nguyen Quang Ngoc, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Comrade Hau A Lenh, Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee; Comrade Ha Thi Nga, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Tuyen Quang province.

The event also welcomed members of the provincial Party Standing Committees, Executive Committees, former provincial leaders of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang, representatives from various central government agencies and National Assembly committees, leaders of departments and sectors, as well as 124 newly appointed secretaries of communal and ward-level Party Committees in Tuyen Quang Province following the merger.

According to the announced Resolution, the entire territory and population of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces have been merged to form a new province, retaining the name Tuyen Quang. The new province covers an area of 13,795.5 square kilometers and has a population of nearly 1.87 million. It shares borders with the provinces of Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, and the People’s Republic of China. Additionally, 124 new commune-level administrative units have been established and will officially come into operation on July 1, 2025.

The ceremony also marked the establishment of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee, formed through the merger of the Party organizations from the former two provinces. The new Provincial Party Committee comprises 65 members, with 22 members serving on the Standing Committee. Comrade Hau A Lenh, Member of the Party Central Committee and former Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee, was appointed as Secretary of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee. Key leadership positions, including Deputy Secretaries, Chairpersons of the Provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee, as well as heads of various departments and agencies, were also duly appointed and finalized.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel General Trinh Van Quyet emphasized that the merger represents a strategic move toward streamlining the administrative apparatus and enhancing governance efficiency. At the same time, it opens up new development opportunities for the northern midland and mountainous region. He underscored the importance of upholding revolutionary traditions, fostering unity, ensuring rapid stabilization, and effectively implementing tasks under the new organizational structure.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hau A Lenh also emphasized that this is a historic milestone, reflecting the Party's and the State's strategic vision. He called on the entire political system, officials, Party members, and people of all ethnic groups to uphold the revolutionary spirit, strengthen solidarity and innovation, and stay resolute in building the new Tuyen Quang Province into a comprehensively developed region in terms of economy, politics, national defense and security, as well as culture and society.

Starting from July 1, 2025, all operations of government at various levels will be conducted under the new administrative structure, ensuring better services for both citizens and businesses.
