Lao Xa is a small, beautiful, and tranquil borderland village. It is home to 117 Mong households in Sa Phin Commune.
Beautiful in every season, Lao Xa offers visitors majestic mountain scenery; vibrant peach and pear blossoms blooming beside ancient stone fences in spring; and opportunities to learn about the traditional silver-carving craft that has existed for more than 100 years. Visitors can also savor local specialties such as smoked meat, highland mustard greens, men men (steamed cornmeal), and black chicken. What makes Lao Xa most special is the peaceful rhythm of life of the Mong people beneath centuries-old earthen houses. More than 20 ancient homes in the village have been preserved in their original condition.
With its distinctive beauty and serenity, Lao Xa has become a favorite destination for travelers visiting Tuyen Quang. Several households have turned their traditional houses into homestays, attracting more than 15,000 visitors each year, including around 3,000 overnight guests. The annual Peach Blossom Festival, organized by Sa Phin Commune, has also become a popular springtime gathering for tourists.
