The Lung Pu black pig is an indigenous breed originating from Lung Pu Commune, Meo Van District (former), now Khau Vai Commune. The product branded as Meo Vac Lung Pu Black Pig has been officially recognized as a four-star OCOP product at the provincial level.
The Lung Pu black pig has been domesticated and raised for generations. It is considered a rare and valuable livestock breed, noted for its strong adaptability, high disease resistance and good maternal traits.
This breed delivers high economic value, earning 1.5 to two times more than crossbred or exotic pig breeds commonly raised in the area. Its popularity stems from strong consumer demand and its distinctive meat quality, characterized by rich flavor, firmness and superior taste.
Notably, the Lung Pu black pig has been identified by the National Institute of Animal Husbandry and the Biodiva Project as a genetic resource that requires conservation, further research and effective utilization.
Khau Vai Commune aims to develop the Lung Pu black pig into a key commodity product, forming an important foundation for accelerating rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. To achieve this goal, priority solutions include improving knowledge and practical skills in breeding and product processing for technical staff and farmers; promoting the application of scientific and technological advances in production and processing to increase output and enhance product quality; and restructuring production models to maximize efficiency and strengthen the driving role of enterprises and cooperatives within linked production and consumption chains.
