When the weather turns cool in autumn, Tay ethnic villages in Tuyen Quang enter the new green rice flake season.
On the upland sticky rice fields, young Tay men and women carefully select plump, golden rice ears. To produce batches of fragrant, shiny green rice flakes, the makers must go through numerous manual steps, each requiring meticulous attention and patience.
At the beginning of the season, every household sets aside its first fragrant batches of rice flakes as offerings to their ancestors, to give thanks to heaven and earth, and to pray for favorable weather and good fortune in farming.
