Chieu Yen banana

Banana is the main crop, bringing income to local people in Luc Hanh commune. However, in recent years, because the selling price of bananas has decreased, farmers in the commune intend to reduce banana cultivation. In the context, Mr. Nguyen The Hai and his wife from Tho Son hamlet have boldly changed their intention to process banana fruits into various products, such as dried banana, banana chips, etc., contributing to enhancing local agricultural values.

In 2024, dried banana and banana chips were certified 3-star OCOP products and are one of 7 products exported to the UK. From the vanguard step, Chieu Yen banana has gradually affirmed its standing in both domestic and international markets. Particularly, in August, Chieu Yen Banana Cooperative was the only provincial unit to export banana products to the UK with 3,000 boxes of bananas.

The cooperative has maintained the selling price of bananas both in the domestic and export markets, with the stable selling price of VND24,000 per 250 grams of banana chips and VND23,000 per 300 grams of dried bananas. This contributes to meeting customers’ demand and promoting the local banana value.

Workers handle bananas – this is the first step in the process.

Banana chips are crunchy after being deep-fried in oil.

They select ripe bananas to process dried bananas.

During drying time in the oven, bananas are flipped continuously to ensure an even yellow colour, then they are dried in the sunlight.

All products, after checking the quality, will be packaged according to the standards of hygiene and safety.

Fried bananas are boxed and vacuum-sealed to ensure hygiene as well as enhance the time of shelf life.

Exported banana products are packaged and labelled to provide information in English.

Banana chips and fried bananas are put in the carton boxes, labelled with traceability stamps before being exported.

From banana chips, Chieu Yen Banana Cooperative has diversified into many banana-based products. In particular, banana powder is a new product that is consumed by customers.
