The majesty of the White Cliff

Amidst the towering mountains of the Dong Van Karst Plateau, the White Cliff of Ma Pi Leng emerges as a rare natural carving - both rugged and pristine. Located along the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, the white cliff is regarded as a symbol of vitality, resilience, and the distinctive identity of the rocky highlands.

The White Cliff is the result of millions of years of geological formation. Movements of the Earth’s crust thrust massive limestone blocks upward, creating near-vertical rock faces that challenge both human sight and endurance. It is this very harshness that gives Ma Pi Leng its singular value, earning it the title “the king of mountain passes” in Viet Nam. Standing at the foot of the white cliff and gazing downward, visitors can easily sense the smallness of humanity before the vastness of nature.

Beyond its scenic value, the White Cliff of Ma Pi Leng is deeply intertwined with the history of the Happiness Road. During years of hardship, tens of thousands of young volunteers clung to the cliff faces, drilling each hole and blasting each rock to carve out the road connecting Dong Van and Meo Vac. Every layer of stone seems to retain the sweat, blood, and youth of those who devoted themselves to this far northern land. Nowadays, the White Cliff has become a striking highlight, drawing visitors on their journey to explore the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
