Located in the northwest of the province, about seven kilometers from the center of Pa Vay Su Commune, Suoi Thau Grassland covers nearly 100 hectares atop Gia Long Mountain at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level. Suoi Thau Hamlet is home to nearly 60 households, all of whom are H’mong people.
Each season brings Suoi Thau a distinct appearance. In spring, the grassland is brightened by the yellow hues of mustard flowers. In summer, it is covered in the green of paddy fields and corn farms, set against drifting white clouds. In winter, enveloped in mist, the grassland takes on a quiet and dreamy atmosphere.
Currently, Pa Vay Su Commune is tapping into its tourism potential in a sustainable manner, balancing infrastructure development with landscape conservation. Local roads have been concreted and widened to nearly 7 meters, improving accessibility and transportation.
The development of tourism in Suoi Thau not only highlights the area’s natural beauty but also creates jobs for local people, contributing to improving their living standards.
People in the grassland have proactively changed their mindset toward tourism development. After the main harvest, they have diversified crop structures by growing flowers and fruits such as peaches, pears, and buckwheat.
In addition, the rich cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups such as the H’mong, Nung, and Dao has been well preserved through yin-yang roofs, rituals, traditional practices, festivals, and community activities.
In the coming period, the commune plans to develop tourism linked with innovative agriculture, promoting OCOP products and local specialties - such as Gia Dui rice, Shan Tuyen tea, honey, buckwheat cake, dried buffalo meat, and cardamom - as integral parts of the visitor experience.
