The cultural treasure trove of 17 ethnic minority groups living on the plateau has created a unique appeal for community-based cultural tourism. Visitors come not only to admire the scenery but to immerse themselves in local life, joining traditional festivals, exploring rammed earth house architecture, admiring colorful brocade costumes, and listening to distinctive folk songs. These authentic experiences and direct interactions with indigenous culture have generated sustainable income for residents through appealing tourism services. They also instill pride among locals and strengthen their commitment to preserving and promoting their heritage.
Recognition of the Dong Van Karst Plateau as a UNESCO Global Geopark has elevated its status, drawing more visitors and helping local communities better appreciate and take pride in their land’s unique values. When people see their heritage respected and delivering tangible benefits, they become more motivated and responsible in taking an active role in conservation.
Despite its predominantly limestone terrain, the plateau boasts rich plant diversity, including rare and endemic species found nowhere else. Its wildlife is equally abundant, with many species listed in Vietnam’s Red Data Book. This biodiversity not only holds scientific and genetic conservation value but also enhances the region’s appeal for eco-tourism.
The Dong Van Karst Plateau stands as living proof that conservation can be a powerful driver of sustainable development. By cherishing and promoting its exceptional geological, biological, and cultural values, this land, “where rocks bloom”, continues to open new opportunities, delivering comprehensive economic, social, and tourism benefits to the community.
