Viet Nam retain place in FIFA top 100 after World Cup rankings reshuffle

Viet Nam remained in the world's top 100 in the latest FIFA men's rankings released after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite major changes at the top of the table following the tournament.

World Cup winners Spain climbed to No. 1 for the first time since September 2013 after gaining 121.17 ranking points – the biggest increase of any team in the latest update – to reach 1,995.88 points.

Runners-up Argentina slipped to second, followed by France, while England rose to fourth after finishing third at the World Cup. Brazil, Morocco, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico completed the top 10.

Morocco reached a historic milestone by climbing to sixth, the highest FIFA ranking in the nation's history, while Norway recorded the biggest rise, moving up 12 places after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals.

In Asia, Japan remained the continent's highest-ranked side ahead of the Republic of Korea, Iran, Australia and Qatar.

Viet Nam stayed 99th after a 4-0 friendly victory over Myanmar during the July FIFA international window earned the team an additional 1.52 ranking points, taking its total to 1,227.20. Although the result did not improve its position, it marked the second consecutive ranking in which Kim Sang Sik's side has remained among the world's top 100 national teams.

Thailand continued to lead Southeast Asia in 94th place with 1,250.80 points, while Viet Nam narrowed the gap to just 23.60 points. Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore followed, highlighting the increasingly competitive nature of regional football.

Viet Nam will now turn its attention to the 2026 ASEAN Cup, where results will play a key role in determining future FIFA ranking points and seeding for World Cup, AFC Asian Cup and other continental qualifying competitions.
