Viet Nam women’s national football team inspires Vietnamese community overseas

The presence of the team has helped strengthen cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding and thereby promoting multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and the State of Western Australia.

On the afternoon of March 8, representatives from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Perth, along with many members of the Vietnamese community and football supporters in Western Australia, visited the hotel where the Viet Nam women’s national football team is staying to congratulate the players on International Women’s Day. The visit also aimed to offer encouragement to head coach Mai Duc Chung and his team ahead of their upcoming match against Japan in the finals of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

Speaking at the gathering, Consul General Nguyen Thanh Ha expressed pride in the team’s resilient competitive spirit. On behalf of the Consulate General of Viet Nam in Perth and the Vietnamese community in Western Australia, he extended his warmest congratulations to the coaching staff and all members of the Viet Nam women’s national football team on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Consul General Nguyen Thanh Ha shared: “The ‘diamond girls’ of Vietnamese football have demonstrated courage, unity, and an indomitable fighting spirit. The presence of the team has contributed to strengthening cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding, and thereby promoting multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Western Australia, as well as between Viet Nam and Australia in general.”

On behalf of the coaching staff, head coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his deep appreciation for the attention shown by the Vietnamese representative mission and the affection of the Vietnamese community in Australia.

He said: “When we travel far from home to compete abroad, we are deeply moved by the encouragement and support from the Consulate General and the Vietnamese community in Perth, especially on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8. The enthusiastic support from the community and fans has provided tremendous motivation for our players. The whole team will continue to prepare thoroughly in both professional and mental aspects for the upcoming match, entering it with the highest determination and competing wholeheartedly for the national colours, for the spirit of Viet Nam, and for the spirit of Vietnamese women.”

Sharing similar sentiments, Hannah Huyen Vu, President of the Australia–Viet Nam Talent Network (AVTN), said the Vietnamese community in Perth is very proud to accompany and support the Viet Nam women’s national team during this tournament.
