For many years, the low-water dam at Dap 18 served as the only route connecting nearly 1,500 residents from about 270 households in six hamlets. During the rainy season, rising floodwaters frequently submerged the crossing, cutting off access for local communities. More than 600 students had to cross the dangerous spillway to reach school, while the transport of timber, agricultural products and daily necessities was often disrupted. Several traffic accidents occurred as residents attempted to cross the flooded dam.
Recognizing the urgent need for a safer crossing, the Youth Union of VietNamNet Newspaper, in collaboration with Tuyen Quang Newspaper and Radio & Television, mobilized donations from benefactors to fund the project. More than VND 500 million was raised from donors, while local residents contributed additional funding and labor, bringing the total investment to over VND 700 million.
Construction began on March 22, and after more than two months, a reinforced concrete bridge measuring 12 metres in length and 4 metres in width was completed, replacing the old spillway.
The new bridge not only ensures safer travel but also improves access to markets for local forest growers. Dong Can has more than 100 households managing over 35 hectares of acacia and Manglietia plantations. Previously, timber prices were often driven down because large trucks could not reach harvesting sites. With the bridge now in service, transport vehicles can access production areas directly, reducing transportation costs and helping residents secure better prices for their timber.
The project has also made it easier for local people to travel, attend school, receive medical care and trade goods. More than just a transport link, Dap 18 Bridge stands as a symbol of community solidarity and the generosity of donors, contributing to improved rural infrastructure and creating fresh momentum for socio-economic development in Binh Ca Commune.
