The VNeID application is becoming an increasingly important part of social life in Vietnam. It not only enables citizens to use electronic identification but is also being developed into a national super app that integrates personal documents, payments, public services, and a wide range of digital utilities. The Government has approved the Project on the “Development of the National Identification Application VNeID for the 2026–2030 Period, with a Vision to 2045,” under which VNeID will be transformed into a super app serving as the central platform of the national digital ecosystem.

At present, VNeID provides electronic identification services that can replace many traditional documents, including citizen identity cards, driver’s licenses, and health insurance cards. The application also allows users to access online public services such as submitting applications, receiving administrative results, making health declarations, and verifying mobile subscriber information. In addition, it integrates e-wallets and bank accounts to facilitate the receipt of subsidies, pensions, and social welfare payments, while connecting and sharing data with national databases on population, land, insurance, and healthcare.

In the coming years, VNeID is expected to evolve into a fully fledged super app. By the end of 2028, the Government aims to integrate 50% of essential digital utilities into VNeID, enabling it to effectively meet the digital transaction needs of citizens, businesses, government agencies, and organizations. It also targets providing electronic identification accounts to 100% of eligible individuals, agencies, and organizations that require them. Furthermore, information on payment accounts and e-wallets is expected to be integrated into VNeID for all recipients of social assistance, pensions, and social welfare payments. All citizen and organizational documents covered by regulations on electronic identification and authentication will also be incorporated into the application.

By 2045, the digital utility ecosystem on VNeID is expected to be further expanded. All utilities and services integrated into the platform are planned to be enhanced with artificial intelligence to deliver the best possible user experience. In addition, all users are expected to have access to cashless payment services and the ability to pay essential bills directly through VNeID.

The development of VNeID into a super app represents a strategic step in Vietnam’s national digital transformation journey, making administrative and civil transactions more convenient for citizens. In the years ahead, VNeID will serve not only as a digital identification application but also as a “digital key” to a wide range of social and economic activities.
