National campaign aims to create drug-free localities
The Prime Minister has directed the implementation of the 2026 Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control, to be held from June 1 to June 30 under the theme “United in the Determination to Build Drug-Free Communes, Wards and Special Zones.” The directive was issued to ministries, agencies, and provincial and municipal authorities to strengthen nationwide efforts in drug prevention, control, and enforcement.

Under the directive, local authorities are required to continue effectively implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws on drug prevention and control. Priority will be given to carrying out the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 132-KL/TW, the National Target Program on Drug Prevention and Control through 2030, and key directives from Party and State leaders on building drug-free communities.
Authorities are instructed to implement comprehensive measures based on the principle that prevention is the fundamental, long-term strategy, while early detection and intervention remain critical and continuous tasks. Efforts will focus on achieving the goals of “three reductions and three increases,” including reducing drug supply, demand and harm, while strengthening state management, increasing investment resources, and expanding the use of science, technology, digital transformation, big data and artificial intelligence in anti-drug operations.
As part of the campaign, law enforcement agencies will launch a nationwide crackdown targeting drug-related crimes, with a focus on dismantling transnational and interprovincial trafficking networks and preventing the emergence of new drug hotspots.
The Prime Minister also called for stronger leadership from Party committees and local administrations, as well as broader participation from the entire political system and the public. Public awareness campaigns will be intensified to encourage individuals, families, organizations and communities to take an active role in building drug-free communes, wards and special zones.
The initiative aims to enhance public awareness, improve the effectiveness of drug control measures, safeguard social order and security, and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development across the country.
