After just a few recent days of intense heat, electricity demand in households as well as in agencies, organizations, and businesses has surged. On the evening of March 28, in response to the 2026 Earth Hour Campaign launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units carried out numerous communication and mobilization activities nationwide, helping spread the message of efficient energy use and environmental protection. As a result, after just one hour of turning off lights in support of the campaign, the country saved approximately 463,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to more than 1 billion VND.
On March 30, 2026, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed and issued Directive No. 10/CT-TTg on strengthening electricity-saving measures and promoting rooftop solar power development. The directive aims to ensure a safe, stable, and continuous electricity supply for production and daily life. Ministries, sectors, localities, and enterprises are required to decisively implement electricity-saving solutions. It also orients the development of self-consumption rooftop solar power systems combined with energy storage to supplement on-site supply and reduce pressure on the national grid. The target is to save at least 3% of total national electricity consumption in 2026.
To save electricity, each household should be conscious of turning off devices when not in use and setting air conditioners at reasonable temperatures. Many households have installed rooftop solar systems to reduce reliance on the national grid. Businesses and public offices are adopting energy-saving technologies and turning off lights and equipment outside working hours. It is necessary to enhance public awareness and replicate models such as “green offices – energy-saving households.”
Saving electricity during the hot season is not only a practical action for each citizen but also a shared responsibility for national energy security. The synchronized implementation of electricity-saving measures will contribute to building a thrifty, modern, and sustainable society.
