Ensuring waterway traffic safety during the stormy season

As the rainy and stormy season begins, unpredictable weather patterns pose a heightened risk of waterway traffic accidents. In response, functional forces across Tuyen Quang province have ramped up public awareness campaigns to help residents and boat operators enhance safety and prevent unfortunate incidents.

According to the Department of Construction, Tuyen Quang currently has nearly 100 inland waterway ports and river-crossing ferry terminals, with approximately 1,000 registered vessels. Among them are over 300 passenger transport boats and more than 600 cargo vessels and other types of watercraft.

The Department has coordinated with the provincial Traffic Safety Committee and local People's Committees to tighten management over inland waterway transport and port operations. Transportation inspectors, in collaboration with relevant units, are actively reminding ferry operators to equip their vessels with life-saving devices and strictly follow the “four-on-the-spot” principle. This includes preparing available means, equipment, materials, and plans for timely rescue and disaster recovery when necessary.

Major Pham Van Tuan, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Police Division, affirmed that oversight of tourist waterway services is being conducted strictly according to assigned plans. Violations of inland waterway traffic laws are met with warnings or strict penalties under the law. Additionally, the division regularly educates boat owners, captains, and the public on the importance of carrying life-saving equipment and understanding emergency response procedures.

Efforts by the authorities are gradually raising public awareness and equipping citizens with the knowledge needed for safe waterway travel. Nonetheless, to ensure absolute safety, the active participation and self-awareness of every individual remain crucial. These are key factors in building a safe and civilized waterway transport environment, especially during the stormy season.
