Cao Lan village – A destination for cultural experiences

Nestled among lush green tea hills and the peaceful countryside, Trai Xoan Hamlet in Nhu Khe is gradually becoming an attractive destination for travelers seeking community-based cultural experiences. The village not only preserves many traditional values of the Cao Lan ethnic people but also leaves a distinct impression through activities rich in ethnic identity.

Amid the green mountains and rice fields, Cao Lan villagers in traditional costumes create a peaceful and culturally distinctive image in Trai Xoan Hamlet.

The melodies of Sinh ca echoing through Trai Xoan Communal House not only help preserve the cultural identity of the Cao Lan people but have also become a highlight attracting visitors.

The hamlet is home to 136 households with 557 residents from five ethnic groups: Kinh, Tay, Cao Lan, Thai and Muong. Alongside preserving traditional cultural values, local people established the Trai Xoan Sinh ca Club, which now has 40 active members. The club contributes to safeguarding Cao Lan folk songs while becoming a cultural attraction for tourists.

Modern homestays and clean village roads are helping create a new look for community-based tourism in Trai Xoan.

Visitors to Trai Xoan can immerse themselves in a unique cultural space through traditional stilt houses, folk games, Sinh ca singing, bamboo dancing, and local specialties such as Chim Gau cakes, sticky rice cakes, and five-colored sticky rice.

Local people continue to preserve tools and household items that have long been closely associated with their daily life and production activities for generations.

The traditional “xuc tep” dance performed to the rhythm of Tac sinh music is showcased during cultural activities, vividly recreating the river-based labor life and cultural beauty of local Cao Lan communities.

Today, the hamlet still preserves more than 20 traditional stilt houses of the Cao Lan people, offering visitors opportunities to explore the cultural life and communal activities of local people. In 2025, the Trai Xoan community tourism site welcomed more than 2,000 visitors, opening up new prospects for economic development linked with preserving traditional ethnic culture.
