Digital economy
As the world enters a period of rapid digital transformation, the Prime Minister has identified 2026 as a breakthrough year for the digital economy. This is not merely a slogan, but a strategic orientation aimed at accelerating Vietnam’s journey toward becoming a digital nation with a robust digital economy and digital society.

The digital economy is emerging as a new engine of growth. It opens up vast opportunities across sectors, from e-commerce and smart logistics to artificial intelligence and big data. Digital government, online public services, and open data help reduce social costs while enhancing trust among citizens and businesses.
However, challenges remain. Digital infrastructure is not yet fully synchronized, particularly in remote and mountainous areas where internet connectivity and access to devices are still limited. The shortage of digital talent and the gap between IT training and practical market demands pose additional obstacles. As the digital economy expands, risks related to cyberattacks and data breaches are also increasing.
To ensure that 2026 truly becomes a breakthrough year, strong investment in digital infrastructure is essential, including nationwide high-speed internet coverage and the development of national data centers. Greater emphasis must be placed on cultivating digital human resources, strengthening collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and the government to build a skilled technology workforce. A comprehensive legal framework should be established for emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and open data. Policies should encourage innovation, support tech startups, and accelerate digital transformation among small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time, a national digital defense system must be developed to safeguard the data of citizens and businesses.
Designating 2026 as the year of digital economic breakthrough is not simply about marking a timeline; it is a firm commitment by the Government to propel Vietnam further into the digital era. The success of this ambition will depend on the collective efforts of the entire political system, the business community, and every citizen.
