Ensuring stable energy security is considered a vital foundation for socio-economic growth and achieving Tuyen Quang province’s development goals for the 2025–2030 period. This aligns with the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 70 on national energy security to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

According to Tuyen Quang Power Company, the province currently serves nearly 500,000 electricity customers, with annual consumption growing by 9–10%. This rising demand poses major challenges to ensuring a stable energy supply. With its mountainous terrain and major rivers such as the Gam and Lo, Tuyen Quang holds great potential for developing small and medium-sized hydropower projects to ensure sufficient, stable, and high-quality energy for socio-economic growth.

The province currently has 52 operational hydropower plants with a total capacity of over 1,292 MW, 31 projects under construction with nearly 360 MW, and 9 planned projects totaling more than 256 MW. The Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, with an installed capacity of 342 MW, generates over 1.6 billion kWh annually for the national grid, contributing significantly to the energy supply in northern Vietnam. Together, power plants across the province provide more than 5 billion kWh per year, meeting local production and residential needs while creating stable jobs for thousands of workers.

In line with Resolution No. 70 and the National Power Development Plan VIII, Tuyen Quang is promoting the development of renewable and clean energy while encouraging energy efficiency. The province currently operates two biomass power plants with a combined capacity of 47.5 MW, and one additional 50 MW project is under preparation. Furthermore, 221 organizations and individuals have invested in rooftop solar systems with a total installed capacity of 6,848 kWp. Between 2025 and 2035, the province plans to expand biomass power capacity by 150 MW and solar power by over 650 MW, reinforcing energy security and supporting sustainable development.
