Thong Nhat Village accelerates to grow custard apple trees

TQO - Recently, with guidance from local authorities, people in Thong Nhat Village, Yen Phu commune (Ham Yen), especially the Mong people in Go Da hamlet, have switched to growing custard apples and Thai custard apples, a type of tree that is quite suitable for the rocky hills in the village and also brings high income.

Mr. Ninh Van Thanh, introducing his family's Thai custard apples and durian custard apples.

Mr. Thien Van Nung, Go Da hamlet, confirmed that his family earned about VND50 million from selling custard apples this year.

"Thanks to the income from growing custard apples, the lives of my family as well as 9 Mong households in Go Da hamlet have improved significantly", he said.

Go Da area now has over 3 hectares of custard apples grown on rocky soil. The custard apple trees grow well, generate fruit and have sweet taste.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Party Secretary of Thong Nhat Village, said that the Mong people's off-season custard apples are now ripening. Custard apple, orange and forest trees are the crops that help Mong people change their lives.

In Thong Nhat, in addition to custard apple of Mong people, people also grow Thai custard apple and durian custard apple on rocky mountains, promising to bring in a large economic source.

Chairman of Yen Phu Commune People's Committee (Ham Yen) Vu Van Sy affirmed: "Through several custard apple crops, it has been shown that custard apple trees are very suitable for local climate and soil conditions, especially in areas of hillsides and rocky mountains with moderate slopes."

Realizing the potential for stable economic development from custard apple trees, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed the expansion of this crop area in suitable terrains to contribute to diversifying the types of fruit trees that are "specialties" of Yen Phu land.

The Yen Phu fruit brand has been known by many people and is affirming its economic efficiency, so the commune is planning to establish the Thong Nhat custard apple cooperative to make the output of custard apples more convenient.

Custard apple, Thai custard apple, and custard apple trees are contributing to diversifying the source of "special" fruits unique to Yen Phu and are an economic resource for poverty reduction and enrichment in Thong Nhat village.
