Unlocking prosperity on Xuan Giang’s farmland

10:46, 26/06/2026

In the early days of summer, a journey through Chi, Tinh, Trung and Khan Nho villages reveals a vast expanse of lush green fields at the peak of the growing season. In cucumber fields, trucks line up from early morning to collect the freshly harvested produce. Across peanut plantations, farmers are busy weeding and earthing up the crops to help them take root. Meanwhile, newly renovated ponds are gradually being covered with floating duckweed, ready for the next stocking season.

Few would have imagined that only a few years ago, agricultural production here was still dominated by small-scale, fragmented farming. Local farmers relied heavily on traditional cultivation practices, while the market for many agricultural products depended almost entirely on traders. The area's fertile land, favorable climate and abundant labor force had yet to be fully utilized.

Following the policy of restructuring agricultural production by diversifying crops and livestock while promoting branding and market linkages, Xuan Giang has gradually developed commodity production areas suited to local conditions. What makes the difference today is not only the introduction of new farming models but also the increasingly close cooperation among local authorities, cooperatives and farmers.

On 1.7 hectares of farmland in Chi and Tinh villages, 12 households have joined a spring cucumber production model in partnership with Huong Dao Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative. During the peak harvest season, between 1.3 and 1.5 tonnes of cucumbers are collected daily and sold under pre-signed contracts. Farmers no longer worry about bumper harvests leading to falling prices; instead, they enjoy greater confidence thanks to stable market access.

Building on this initial success, peanut cultivation has been expanded to 3.8 hectares, involving 76 households across several villages in the commune. The first harvests have delivered encouraging yields, demonstrating the potential for wider expansion and highlighting the effectiveness of production linkages in modern agriculture.

Alongside crop production, new livelihood opportunities are also emerging by making better use of the locality's natural advantages.

In Trung, Quyen, Then, Chi and Chang villages, nearly 30 households are renovating ponds and improving water quality in preparation for black apple snail and freshwater crab farming. The combined farming area now exceeds 1.1 hectares of water surface, while more than 160,000 juvenile stock have been prepared for the first production cycle.

Restructuring crops and livestock is aimed not only at increasing agricultural productivity but also at creating new development opportunities for local residents. The commune will continue promoting production linkages, developing signature local products and gradually establishing concentrated production zones, laying a solid foundation for sustainable agricultural development and higher incomes for local people.

Under its development plan through 2030, Xuan Giang aims to develop between three and five OCOP (One Commune One Product) products while establishing concentrated production areas connected to value chains, building product brands and expanding market access. These efforts are expected to provide a solid foundation for sustainable poverty reduction and continued improvements in local living standards.

From the seeds sown today, future harvests are beginning to take shape. Along this journey, the close collaboration among Party committees, local authorities, cooperatives and farmers is creating new momentum for development. With each passing season, the fruits of hard work not only enrich the land but also strengthen people's confidence in a brighter future for Xuan Giang - a countryside where untapped potential is being awakened and aspirations for prosperity are steadily blossoming into reality.
